Ludhiana: In order to create a micro forest in each constituency of the city, harness rain water, and create a cleaner environment, a meeting was held between the civic authorities and city-based NGOs on Wednesday. MC Commissioner K P Brar chaired the meeting under the Jal Shakti mission.
Members of various city-based NGOs were asked to suggest and help the civic body in implementing these suggestions for the betterment of residents and improving the health of the city.
While sharing information, zonal commissioner Neeraj Jain claimed that the meeting was held to ensure immediate steps to be taken to save the environment. He said representatives from the NGOs had assured to extend their support in improving the conditions of abandoned parks and green areas of the city.
He said the officials concerned were told to find out locations at the Focal Point where micro forests could be developed.
Meanwhile, Rahul Verma, businessman and a member of the Sambhav Foundation, asked the civic officials to trace residents who had shown rain water harvesting system in their building plans of factories as well as houses at the time of approval, but never implemented the same.
He said if these people had got rain water harvesting system as per their building plans, waterlogging problem could be solved.
